Our Team

Jon, Eric, and Ian met while swimming Masters in La Jolla. Eric often led the lane, but couldn’t count worth beans. We knew there had to be a better way. So we created Splash Metrix.

Jonathan Scheff, Co-Founder and CFO

Surfer friends say that the best surfer is the one who has the most fun doing it.  By that measure, Jon may be one of the best swimmers around.  He loves to swim.  Jon usually swims every day – weekdays with his Masters team and weekends on his own.  When the ocean warms up enough, he swims open water.  He keeps his self-esteem in check with occasional Masters swim meets and rough water swims in the San Diego area. As a physician with an MBA, he used to have a real job as the chief medical officer of a Fortune 500 managed health care company which severely crimped his swim routine.  Nowadays, when he is out of the water, Jon serves on the boards of private and not-for-profit companies and provides help to a variety of start-ups around town.

Eric Wan, Co-Founder and CEO

Eric started swimming competitively when he was 7 years old.  He was not very good.  He made lots of excuses to get out of practice and stopped swimming altogether when he went off to college.  But chlorine had gotten into his blood. While getting his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, he started lap swimming again for exercise. At 40 he entered his first Masters meet. Now he has multiple Top 10 times and state records, and regularly makes excuses to get out of work to meet Jon for the noon Masters’ practice. Outside of swimming, Eric is considered a renowned researcher in signal processing and machine learning, is currently a Research Associate Professor at Portland State University, and has been involved in a number of start-up companies.

Ian Muir McNally, Co-Founder

Born and raised in La Jolla, Ian attended La Jolla High School and UCLA (BS - Math and Physics; MS - Mechanical Engineering), and subsequently worked for 15 years as an acoustics consultant. In 2015, he founded Muir Energy, a  food company making plant based nutrition for endurance athletes.  A former competitive athlete (soccer, golf, swimming), Ian now runs and swims to keep fit for long distance hiking.  His other hobbies include reading, cooking and playing the piano. The idea for Splitz came to Ian on the pool deck before a Masters swim workout.  He shared his idea with Jon, and soon after they shared the idea with Eric.
